1. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake visits Bodh Gaya
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, on a three-day official visit to India, visited Bodh Gaya yesterday (December 17). He paid homage at the Mahabodhi Temple, where Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment, and received blessings under the sacred Bodhi tree.
2. Massive rice production in Polonnaruwa
Within the past nine days, Polonnaruwa's large-scale rice mills have released one million kilograms of rice to the market, aiming to stabilize rice supply in the country.
3. New Speaker of Parliament elected
Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, an MP from the National People's Power (NPP) representing the Polonnaruwa District, has been elected as the new Speaker of Parliament.
4. Security for former Presidents to be withdrawn
Tri-forces security provided to former Presidents will be withdrawn next week, as per a new government decision.
5. Weather forecast
The Meteorology Department predicts scattered rainfall in the Northern, North-Central, and Trincomalee districts today. Residents are advised to prepare for rainy weather in these areas.
